Wrestling for the week of January 10th

After having swept the competition at the Providence 6-way duals, the Panthers look to be in top form down at Madison for the HHC individual championships.  Jennings County will have a chance to avenge their only team loss of the season against Columbus East and take home a conference championship by winning the overall team score.  It will be a tough battle, and the Panthers need all the support they can get from their fans.  Seedings are posted at the bottom of this post.

The second varsity will be traveling north of Indianapolis to Tri-Central for their own tournament.  If it is anything like last years tournament, the Panthers will have their hands full.  Good luck to both Panther teams, and come out with your support.

The Madison Dual with 1st Varsity and the Reserve Invite at JCHS may be rescheduled.  TBA.

Wrestling over the break and into the new year

The Panther Varsity headed up north to Mooresville for a holiday individual tournament and finished 2nd place only to #6 Yorktown.  Our boys put up a heck of an effort, finishing in many weight classes above their seed.  In doing so, JC put five in the finals, had two champions (Mark Collett and Iyan Bass), and ended up with eleven wrestlers in the top five.  Good wrestling against great competition.

112 Gary Engelking 2nd  3-1
119 Marshall Holwager 5th   3-2

Jennings County 224.5

The 1st varsity also racked up another win against Southern Dearborn a few days after the new year, 65 to 8.  Joey Resch wrestled well, earning a tech fall as did Jordan Gast.  Conner Montgomery, Draden Box, Zach Graham, Brock Wathen, and Mark Collett all finished off their opponents by pin.  A highly anticipated rematch between Wathen and Nick Manning (Both ranked at 171) never came to be as Manning was apparently out with injury.

The year of the Panther!

The Panthers have once again gotten off to a strong start this 2010-11 wrestling season by winning not only the entire War on the Wabash Tournament, but also finishing a respectible 2nd at the HHC Conference Duals Tournament.  In doing so, they have amassed a 19-1 record and were even able to take down two teams ranked in the top 20 of the state.  Let's hope the competition is starting to paying attention!  The Panther's only loss this season so far has been to a tough Columbus East team by tiebreak.  And that was after leading half way through the match 30-9!  The Panther Varsity is lead this year by a gritty and seasoned group of seniors including Joey Resch (125), Alex Alcorn (140), Justin Balwin (160), Tyler Morrison (189), and Mark Collett (285).  The varsity line-up is rounded out by 5 underclassman that were at least regional qualifiers last year including Gary Engleking (112), Marshall Holwager (119), Jordan Gast (130), Brock Wathen (171), and Iyan Bass (215-I.R.).  Three panthers have been included in indianamat.com's individual wrestler rankings.

This years squad is obviously going to be tough to beat and is only made stronger by our 2nd Varsity that is constantly nipping at their heels.  The 2nd Varsity, including seniors Taylor Alcorn, Jerrod Holwager, Jacob Krueger, Broady Bowers, and Chris Galliher has already swept the Robert Fugate Memorial Classic in Scottsburg going a perfect 8-0.
