Wrestling for the week of January 10th

After having swept the competition at the Providence 6-way duals, the Panthers look to be in top form down at Madison for the HHC individual championships.  Jennings County will have a chance to avenge their only team loss of the season against Columbus East and take home a conference championship by winning the overall team score.  It will be a tough battle, and the Panthers need all the support they can get from their fans.  Seedings are posted at the bottom of this post.

The second varsity will be traveling north of Indianapolis to Tri-Central for their own tournament.  If it is anything like last years tournament, the Panthers will have their hands full.  Good luck to both Panther teams, and come out with your support.

The Madison Dual with 1st Varsity and the Reserve Invite at JCHS may be rescheduled.  TBA.

Wrestling over the break and into the new year

The Panther Varsity headed up north to Mooresville for a holiday individual tournament and finished 2nd place only to #6 Yorktown.  Our boys put up a heck of an effort, finishing in many weight classes above their seed.  In doing so, JC put five in the finals, had two champions (Mark Collett and Iyan Bass), and ended up with eleven wrestlers in the top five.  Good wrestling against great competition.

103 Lane Luhn 5th  3-2
112 Gary Engelking 2nd  3-1
119 Marshall Holwager 5th   3-2
125 Joey Resch 5th  3-2
130 Conner Montgomery DNP  1-2
135 Jordan Gast 3rd   4-1

160 Justin Baldwin 2nd  3-1
171 Brock Wathen 2nd  3-1
189 Tyler Morrison 4th   4-2
215 Iyan Bass 1st   4-0
285 Mark Collett 1st   4-0
Top 4 team scores:

Yorktown 259
Jennings County 224.5
Castle 202
Homestead 176

The 1st varsity also racked up another win against Southern Dearborn a few days after the new year, 65 to 8.  Joey Resch wrestled well, earning a tech fall as did Jordan Gast.  Conner Montgomery, Draden Box, Zach Graham, Brock Wathen, and Mark Collett all finished off their opponents by pin.  A highly anticipated rematch between Wathen and Nick Manning (Both ranked at 171) never came to be as Manning was apparently out with injury.
